OBJECTIVES By the end of this lesson, students will be able to identify the /ỉ/ sound and practise the conversations. 1. Language knowledge and skills Vocabulary: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Sentence pattern: When do you have English? I have English on Wednesdays and Fridays. Skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking 2. Competences Self-control and independent learning: identify the /ỉ/ sound, practice sound individually, in words and in conversations. Communication and collaboration: work individually or follow the teacher’s instructions. Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to ask and answer about the school timetables. 3. Attributes Kindness: support their teacher to complete the learning tasks or play the games. Diligence: focus on the lesson and work hard to complete all the tasks. Honesty: play fair. Accountability: appreciate kindness, diligence, and honesty. II. - - Teacher says: Hello children! Welcome to my E-learning lesson today. Let me introduce myself. My name is Ms Linh. I’m an English teacher at Hai Anh Primary School, Hai Anh commune Hai Hau district Nam Dinh province. Today we are going to learn Unit 3: School. Lesson 3: Parts C, D page 45. In this lesson, we will learn how to pronounce /ỉ/ sound and how it works in a word and in a sentence. Now are you ready? Let’s start our lesson.” Activity 1: Review * Aim: Review what they have learnt in previous lessons and lead in the new lesson. * Procedure: - Teacher says: Before starting new lesson, let’s review the old lessons by doing a quiz.” - Students give answers to 5 questions as requirements and suggestions in Vietnamese if 1’ necessary. - Question 1: Look at the picture and tick the correct answer. + Key: stand up
- - Question 2: Look at the picture and fill in the blank. + Key: black - Question 3: Look at the picture and fill in the blank. + Key: cat - Question 4: Look at the picture and put the letters in the correct order. + Key: Saturday - Question 5: Drag and drop the words on the correct pictures. + Teacher reviews the quiz by asking students to listen and repeat the words: stand, black, cat, math. Teacher asks students to realize the similarities between these words to lead in the new lesson. Teacher says: “Congratulation! You’ve finished the quiz and now listen and repeat after me: stand, black, cat, math. What is the similarity between these words? Ok right. These words contain /ỉ/ sound. To know how to pronounce /ỉ/ sound, we move to the next part.” Activity 2: New lesson – Sound introduction
- * Sound introduction - Aim: help students identify /ỉ/ sound and practice sound individually and in words. - Procedure: + Teacher says: “To know how to pronounce /ỉ/ sound, let’s see a movie.” + Students watch the movie to know how to pronounce /ỉ/ sound. + Teacher explains in Vietnamese: “Các em thân mến, âm /ỉ/ là một nguyên âm ngắn. Để đọc được âm này các em làm các bước như sau: Bước 1: Miệng mở rộng. Bước 2: 4’ Hạ lưỡi xuống vị trí thấp nhất, đầu lưỡi chạm chân răng cửa trong hàm dưới. Bước 3: Giữ nguyên vị trí hai mơi và phát âm thật gọn dưới một giây. Giờ chúng ta nhìn lên màn hình lắng nghe và nhắc lại theo cơ nhé.” + Students listen to the teacher to know how to pronounce /ỉ/ sound and repeat the sounds three times. + Teacher asks students to move to the part C. 1. Chant - Teacher instructs the task: “In this part you will practice sound individually and sound in words. Note: Students can play again and practice sound and words. - Teacher asks students to do a small quiz to check their understanding. * Drag and drop the words containing /ỉ/ sound into the box. Then listen to the tape and check your answer. Key: math, Saturday, hand, black, cat. Activity 3: Practice * Aim: Help students practice /ỉ/ sound in conversations, practice asking and answering about the 8’ school timetables, improve listening and speaking skill. * Procedure:
- D. 1. Look and listen. - Teacher say: “D.1. Look and listen. In this part you will listen to the conversation between Tom and Ben. They ask and answer about their school timetables. Before that let’s do a small quiz.” - Students do the quiz by giving answers to 6 questions as requirements and suggestions in Vietnamese if necessary. + Question 1: Look at the picture and tick the correct word. Key: math + Question 2: Look at the picture and tick the correct word. Key: art + Question 3: Look at the picture and tick the correct word. Key: music + Question 4: Look at the picture, drag and drop the missing letters to make a correct word. Key: Wednesday

Key: Friday - Teacher asks students review the quiz with some more words by listening and repeating after the teacher. - Students listen to the teacher carefully and repeat. - Teacher asks students to listen to the conversations by watching a movie. + Teacher says: “Listen to the conversation between Tom and Ben. They ask and answer about their school timetables. Try to identify /ỉ/ sound in words and understand the conversations.” + Students listen to the conversations and try to identify /ỉ/ sound in words and understand the conversations. + Teacher asks students to listen to the conversations again and clap their hands once when they hear subjects and clap their hands twice when you hear days of week. + Students listen to the

Listen and circle. - Teacher instructs the task: “In this part you will listen to the conversations again and circle the words you hear.” - Teacher say: “Before listening to the tape, read the conversations and try to guess the missing word in one minute. You can pause the video. And now listen to the conversations and circle the words you hear.” - Students listen to the conversations twice and circle the words they hear. They can write the answers on their notebooks. - Student listen to the conversations one more time and check their answers. - After students listen again and check their answers, teacher shows the answers and asks students how many correct answer they have and ask them to take a photo their answer to the teacher and sent it to the teacher. - Teacher asks students to review the conversations. Activity 4: Production * Aim: + Help students make a similar conversations with other to ask and answer about their school timetable. + Help students improve their speaking skill. * Procedure: - Teacher ask students to play roles to practice the conversations. + First the teacher is Tom, students are Ben. (Because of the time limitation this turn of practice conversation was cut.) + Second: Change the role: the teacher is Ben and students are 2’ Tom. Teacher says: “Well done, children! And now we will practice the conversations again. I’m Ben and you are Tom. Bây giờ chúng ta sẽ luyện tập lại bài hội thoại. Các bạn là Tom cịn cơ sẽ là Ben. Các bạn sẵn sàng chưa? Chúng ta bắt đầu nào.” + After playing roles to practice the conversations, teacher instructs students practice the conversations at home with a friend or a family member. Teacher says: “You can practice the conversations with your friends or your family members at

Các em than mến các em cĩ thể luyện tập hỏi và trả lời về thời khĩa biểu của mình ở nhà cùng với một người bạn hoặc một thành viên trong gia đình của mình bằng cách thay phiên nhau đặt câu hỏi và trả lời. Lưu ý trong câu hỏi các em thay tên Tom và Ben bằng tên của mình và của bạn mình. Trong câu trả lời các em thay thế các thứ cho phù hợp với thời khĩa biểu của mình. Ví dụ bạn Mai và bạn Hoa nĩi chuyện với nhau: bạn Hoa hỏi: “When do you have P.E., Mai?” bạn Mai trả lời: “I have P.E. on Mondays and Wednesdays.” Các em hãy nhớ luyện tập và ghi âm lại cuộc hội thoại rồi sau đĩ gửi cho cơ để cơ sửa phát âm nếu cần nhé. Cơ cảm ơn các em.” Activity 5: Consolidation - Teacher asks students to do a small quiz to consolidate the lesson. - Students do the quiz by giving 1’ answers to 5 questions as required and suggestions in Vietnamese below if necessary. - Question1: Drag and drop the words on the correct places. Keys: Tuesday; Friday; Sunday.
- - Question 2: Read the text and fill the blank with a suitable word. Key: Sunday - Question 3: Reorder the words to make a correct sentence. Key: When do you have English? - Question 4: Reorder the words to make a correct sentence. Key: I have English on Wednesdays and Fridays. / I have English on Fridays and Wednesdays. - Question 5: Reorder the sentences to make a conversation. Key: 1. When do you have English? 2. I have English on Tuesdays and Fridays. When do you have English? 3. I have English on Mondays and Thursdays. Do you like music? 4. Yes, I do. I like music. - Teacher summarize the lesson and encourage students.
